Question:

I filed an insurance claim. All 3 of the vendors I'm using want me to pay my deductible to them. Why?

I filed a home insurance claim through State Farm, and I'm using 3 different companies for repair. All of them want me to pay my deductible to them, but obviously I'm just paying the deductible to one of them, and State Farm will pay the remainder of the claim. Why is is that they all want me to pay the deduc to them? Do they get more money that way? I already feel like I've been raped by all 3 of them, and I'd rather just pay it to State Farm, and have them disburse it. Is that possible?

  1. Your homeowners deductible probably applies separately to each "occurrence" of damage, so if your repairs aren't all related to the same claim, that might be why they each want a deductible.  It seems more likely to me that each one of these companies is unaware that you might pay the deductible to another one.  I agree that whichever repair is most urgent is the one that you should pay the deductible to.  Make sure you get a receipt, and forward it to your State Farm claim adjuster.  Then you should hopefully be able to let the other companies know that the deductible has been taken care of, and State Farm will pay them directly.

  2. They dont get anymore money that way, but they get it faster.Probably  all three have been stiffed  by  people for the deductible.

To protect themselves, this is the way they have elected to do business.

Have you called State Farm and explained the problems you are having???

  3. If you pay them right now they will not have to wait for your insurance company to send them a check.  It really is silly, State Farm should pay them relatively quickly.  Don't worry about who you pay the deductible to, just pay it to one of them.  It should not be a concern of yours at all.

  4. Whoever gets the deductible, gets a chunk of their money fast.  I've heard rumours that State Farm isn't the quickest payer.  Pay it to the vendor who is doing the most important repair or the one that needs to be completed first.

  5. Call your State Farm Agent for help.   They may get the answers for you.   But they will have to call the claim rep for help just like you would.   So, you might as well call the claim rep for help first.

If the claim rep does not give you some answers that you understand then call the agent for help.   That is what you pay us for.
