I filled out a w2 form, does that mean I have to pay taxes?

So I filled out a W2 for about 3 different companies, and I probably took in about 30K from all 3 businesses total. I live with my grandmother but she doesn't claim me as a dependent and I have a 2nd job that takes maximum taxes from my paycheck.

My Question is will I be having to owe a lot of money when tax season comes around because of the w2 that I filled out? I'm a bit concerned, because I need to know how much money will i need to be saving...

  1. www.irs.gov has a calculator for how much withholding should be taken out - for a second job I reccommend that you do not claim any exemptions on your W-4.

If you are paid as a contractor look over the deductions you can take for next year on your Schedule C.

  2. Actually the forms you filled out were W-4 forms.  The W-2 is what you'll get from your employers at the end of the year, showing how much you made and how much was withheld.

With an income of around $30K yes you will have tax liability. You'll fill out a tax return form to calculate what you owe. If they withheld more than you owe, you'll get extra refunded.  If they didn't withhold enough, you'll have to pay the extra.  Since you don't give a clue as to how much total is being withheld, there's no way to guess which way it will go.
