So when I done my FAFSA we were separated still are, but im expecting a child and reason of split is he dont think it's his. My efc was zero because there will be 2 people here after September but he is gone. Utility bill is still in his name but Financial aid officer wants a something stating he isnt here. He changed the address on his cell phone bill and f.a.o. wants a piece of mail, He gave me 1/2 his phone bill that does show where he is now. Will that work as his proof of residency???

  1. A FAFSA represents a "snapshot in time". Everything on your application is "as of the time of your application." Certain information must be updated, but your household size and dependency classification can not be modified due to a change in marital status. This is true even if your FAFSA is selected for verification.

Proof of residency is what your financial aid office says it is. There is no government rule describing acceptable "proof of residency". A cell phone bill with a different address might be accepted, but your financial aid office may not see that as sufficient and conclusive evidence. You'll have to ask the financial aid officer that you are dealing with.

  2. Usually a school will have a "Change of Circumstances" form that will have just such a box for you to check.  Anything you can provide confirming the separation would help.  If the FAO is asking for state residency documents you may want to check with the Registrar's office and see if you are listed as a state resident for tuition purposes.  You would need to provide two forms of valid ID issued over 12 months before the start of classes.  An example form is http://www.edison.edu/financialaid/docum...

  3. Ask him to sign something like this...

I, (name), under no certain terms reside at (address) with (your name). I confirm, under possibility of being charged with fraud, that this information is correct.

    (his signature)

  4. first, if your efc is zero i wouldnt worry about changing anything, because it wont effect your grant money you will still get maximum.

second, if you really wanted to change it you could use your pin numer, get back online to fafsa and change it your self.
