  1. miki motos go to a sushi bar something nice with a wide selection of sushi and japenese food.

  2. We do sushi parties all the time.  We do imitation crab meat, cooked jumbo shrimp, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail.  Then we use carrots, cucumbers, avocado and occasionally egg and raw mushrooms.  Slice the veggies and fish up into strips and then the process is easy.  We mix it all up with a little of everything (my girlfriend and I are the 'rollers' of the group).  Serve with ponzu sauce, soy and wasabe, plus ginger.

We serve the sushi with Oroya (Sp?) sushi wine.  You can get it at bevmo.  We have so much fun!  For those who don't do raw fish, or sushi in general we have them bring a steak to broil or something so everyone is happy.  Sliced fruits, plus the 'leftover' stuffing plus plenty of ponzu makes everyone happy!  Enjoy!

  3. i had sushi today i love that masubi i know i spelled that wrong california rolls are good

  4. Try making spring rolls or egg rolls for appetizers.  A simple spring roll I've made before has thinly sliced mango, cucumber, carrot and cilantro leaves rolled in rice paper wrappers.  It's very light & fresh. Or, to keep it simple, steam some edamame pods and sprinkle with coarse salt for a pre-sushi nibble.

It sounds like you're off to a good start making sushi rolls already...  Tuna and salmon are the best bets -- especially if your friends aren't sushi savvy.  You could also try cooked crab or shrimp to play it safe if your market doesn't have many "sushi grade" fish selections.  Be sure to ask the person at the fish counter if the seafood is "sushi grade" -- that's important for when you're eating raw fish.

If you have a Whole Foods store near you, you can buy some sushi combos in their refrigerated section to compliment any sushi rolls that you plan to make yourself.  There's no crime in purchasing ready-made items when entertaining.

Here's a site to look at for a very whimsical sushi-themed dessert.  www.notmartha.org/tomake/hostesssushi

Make them a day ahead since they're a bit time consuming, but your friends will love them and they're great for a laugh.

Another dessert idea that is served at one of my favorite Japanese restaurants (even though it's not a traditionally Japanese dessert) is a mango/coconut cheesecake parfait.  You can make (or buy) a small cheesecake and then spoon some into a tall glass.  Puree some fresh or frozen mango (add a bit of honey or sugar if the mango isn't sweet enough on it's own) and drizzle the mango syrup over the cheesecake.  Sprinkle with sweetened shredded coconut and continue layering.  Mmmmm.

Anyway, sounds like a great party!  Enjoy & happy cooking  ;-)

  5. I make homemade wonton soup fromEmrils recipe ( I add shrimp) Yummy side dish, and you can just serve edamame, the greeen beans with sea salt
