suggested sth that wasnt in my mind. Only the dentist suggested sth exactly what I was looking for. Has anyone got braces or invisalign from a normal dentist instead of an ortho?

My case: my teeth are not probably aligned in middle (so the mid line is shifted to the left a bit). so long time ago I was already thinking the right way is to pull a pair of teeth in the right hand side. Both ortho said they must pull 2 pairs from both L and R so that its balanced (which I think they are just too rigid). they both even said that they wont do invisalign coz my case needs to pull some teeth. While this dentist just said things that are totally in my mind! and he said invisalign works... the only concern is that he's not an ortho! I have a fd who was treated by him(mild case) and was successful and he has over 20 yrs experience...

  1. if you get a person who does a psych degree, and works as a psych lecturer, but they also did a subject in counselling, you wouldn't want them counselling you, would you?

that's why i wouldn't want a dentist putting braces on me when i could go to an ortho. an ortho does the same thing every day, so mistakes are less likely and the results may even be better. the dentist probably isn't going to stuff things up majorly, but i wouldn't risk it.

i would say more but i don't know what you mean by "sth", which you said twice.

by the way, invisalign can be used when teeth are extracted. my orthodontist offered that to me as an option. i'm not sure why they said they couldn't do it for you.

  2. Hello...Let me clear up an issue for you..."ALL" general dentist can provide orthodontic services....Here's the rule, after regular dental school graduation some dentist will decide they want to specialize and become a Certificated "Orthodontist". he or she achieves that goal by attending a post-graduate course in orthodontics. Once completed they can then advertise they are Orthodontist...."however", once they specialize they can no longer provide regular dental services...On the other hand, a general dentists can do orthodontics as long as he or she doesn't advertise they do it, just like they can provide services for children...if however they advertise their self as a specialist in children's dentistry, they can no longer provide dental services to adults.....Those are the rules that dentistry has put in place to foster referrals and protect specialist from competition. Good luck and I wish you well.
