  1. Get a good gumshield and train with it in you will get used to it. Some of the martial arts gumshiellds have a hole in the front and cover the bottom teeth slightly enabling you to breathe through your mouth. Also it may be diferant for boxing but my Tae Kwon Do Instructor wants us to breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. I cant see why breathing out with a gum sheild would be a problem unless of course you have your mouth fimly shut to bite on the shield. Could it be that your gum sheild is not fitting properly and you are trying to hold it in thats why you find it difucult to breathe? if so get a new gum shield and have it fitted by your dentist.

bytomic.com do gum shields with holes

  2. get a mouthpiece that has upper and lower protection and has a hole in the middle to breath from.

  3. Not wanting to sound rude but if you are struggling to breathe with a gumshield in it is probably a sign of your lack of fitness. When you have a gumshield in it is harder to breathe no matter how fit you are but If your VO2 max is too low you will not be sucking in enough air, the only way to combat this truly effectively is to improve your aerobic fitness.

  4. get a taylor made gumshield, go to the dentist and they will make one for you. If you cant breath then the gumshield your using right now is probably too big for your mouth, you cant beat the gumshield a dentist will do for you.

  5. Well theres a few options really, you can go to your dentist/a good dentist and get them to make one for you but its big bucks!!  You could get a shock doctor one, they have a channel through them to aid air flow.  Or you can get a cheap one like i did, n always train with it in even if not sparring (id recomend this regardless of which sheild you get.  This will get you used to having it in and breathing + biting down when hitting as it helps tighten your neck muscles.

  6. an everlast mouthguard works fine, they cover both rows of teeth with a hole in the middle to breathe
