Why do you think that is so?

Have Western Europe and India had contact with each other since the bronze age? Do you think there are any similarities between Hinduism and Nordic mythology?

  1. The western European languages are all of Indian origin,

(Indo-European or proto-Indo-European.) so it is not difficult to imagine some cultural similarities.

  2. The Swastika used to be a sign of God.

but then that nut Hitler ruined it

Just like he did that cool mustache, No one can ever have that anymore!!

He sure ruined a lot of things.

  3. European cultures and North Indian ones come from the same Proto indo European people, from somewhere around the black sea into southern Russia. You see swastikas on seals in Pakistan about 7,000 years old.

There's more similarity between central European myths and Hindu ones than Nordic and Hindu.

  4. Yes Pre-Christian Europe and India do have ties, these ties are much closer than contact in pre Bronze Age times.  We as north western Europeans are considered Aryan and the origins of Aryan people lie with those that are still considered as being such in Northern India.  By this I am in no way condoning or agreeing with Nazism just telling you how these men came up with the use of the Swastika.

  5. you can also find them on Buddhist temples in japan. i think it is just one of those primitive shapes that all cultures independently come up with. like a circle or a square. the swastika is also known as a sun wheel or sun cross.

  6. Dont know much about those religons but that is interesting. thank you for the new knowledge.

  7. the swastika can be found on bronze age stones in Britain (c 3500-4000 years ago)and also in some celtic brooches. It probably  signified the sun, or maybe fire or lightning.

the st brigid's cross in Ireland, which is woven from rushes, is not a cross at all but a swastika. Now people think of St Brigid as a holy nun who lived in Kildare--but centuries before she lived there was another 3-faced Brigid, goddess of the hearth fire, who had a shrine at Kildare. Her name may mean 'high one' or 'fiery arrow'.

A pre-Christian cross is also found in bronze age Britain-usually on a fine gold disc or button. they turn up mostly in rich areas like that around Stonehenge, and were undoubtably sun-symbols.

  8. You can also find it on ceramics in the American Southwest.  I wonder if it isn't just a symbol we've had since way way way way way back when we were all still in Africa and that we carried with us as we dispersed.

  9. The western European languages are all of Indian origin? i am not sure where you got that from. the symbol was first used by the Vinca culture in hungary, bulgaria, and romania about 8000 years ago.
