  1. Well, it probably happened in the first place from improper stretching. I think that you really need to stretch before you run and hold each position of at least 25 seconds. Then do agilities like lunges or pulling your knees to your chest. When you are done with your workout, stretch again and take time. Don't ever take stretching lightly. I had a problem with my IT band and I never treated it. I kept running and it developed into something else. I now have to get surgery if I want to correct it. If it starts causing you pain when you run you need to go to the doctor. I had to go to physical therapy and I had to stretch FOREVER. Stretch every day even if you don't run that day. If you are running on the track, don't run the same direction. Go forward and then switch and go backward. If you run on roads, try running in the grass instead of on concrete. It might help to have a softer place to run. I hope you get better! Take it easy if you have to.

  2. Invest in a foam roller to help work the kinks out of your IT Band. It's a little painful in the beginning, but once you're done it's pure relief! Trust me.

  3. Try holding the stretch longer and I'm not sure what stretches you do, but try the one where (I'll do my best to explain) you start on your knees and bring your leg (whichever one you want to stretch) in front of your other one as if you were going to sit. Push down with that hip while supporting yourself with your arms as your non stretched leg is straight back.  Go by feel.  I know my explanation isn't all that great.  I wish I could draw you a visual but you might be able to find it on the net.  Sometimes because of muscle strength or leg length some are easier to stretch than others.  I hope you get the idea, or else this could go down as the worst answer ever.  Good luck!
