  1. are you behind a router that has firewall?

if the router offers DMZ then add/use that settings for your computer.

if you use Demilitarizes Zone, your computer will sit outside the firewall. its like a computer between the router and the network. some router will slow down internet connection because of security issue. if you use DMZ your pc will bypass every security that your router can offer.

I used this settings for my PS3, I have the D-Link GAMERLOUNGE router. i hope there will be no virus yet for PS3.

  2. XP tweaks works good or Vista TWEAKS

ui tweak  tweakui (which ever it its been so long since i playe dwith them..

there are tones of them some free some not

dont forget the ever critical msconfig

  3. You can't make the Internet speed any faster than it is, you get what you pay for. There might be scripts and things that say it will make it faster but there is no way you can make the speed go any faster than it already is, chances are you might have to pay more to get better speed.

  4. cable internet has different speeds. The fastest speed will cost more than moderate speed. Check with the cable company and see what speeds they offer. Hope this helps you.

  5. i need to know if it wireless if it is you can change the channle to one with less interferance.

  6. try SG TCP Optimizer

"Description: The TCP Optimizer is a free, easy Windows program that provides an intuitive interface for tuning and optimizing your Internet connection. There is no installation required, just download and run. "

  7. He has cable and wants faster internet access ? what for ?

The way to improve speed is to use compression but it need your provider to have the compression enabled.

Also you could use a proxy. But, depending on the proxy, this would only improve when visiting text sites (some store images, some store even video files, almost none store downloads).
