Okay so i have a slight gap tooth in the front of my mouth and my brother just said to take some of his braces rubber bands and put two around my two front teeth. within an hour i could tell that the teeth had moved a little and it looks so much better? is this really that bad to do? i mean, i guess it's working for me. i just don't know whether i should keep them in or not because i heard that this isn't a good idea. i don't see what the problem is if its working though...? what do you guys think?

  1. i did the same thing i felt a little pressure and tightness ofcourse but thats about it

  2. I do not believe that you can hurt yourself doing this but the truth be told the teeth will just go right back where they were when you take the rubber bands off. Why?  Because all the teeth have to be moved toward center to permanently hold the gap closed. That is why braces are your best choice.

  3. i shouldn't think there is any problem with that. just make sure you don't do it to often as it could move the tooth to much. x

  4. wow, im surprised that worked. i mean braces elastics work very well at fixing an over or underbite but it doesn't start working within one hour....

even when you have actual braces, your teeth wont noticably shift within one hour! i dont mean it to sound harsh or anything, but i think you might jsut be imagining it?

i wouldnt continue doing this because im not sure how well it will work, if at all. maybe, within a day of wearing the elastics, the gap will actually become elss noticable. but the results wont stay enless you wear the elastics constantly (except for eating and brushing) and they continue to apply ENOUGH pressure on the teeth to keep them from moving back, which i doubt that a piece of rubber can do all alone.

again, if your teeth do start to move it might be very bad...i have to assume you arent an orthodontist so you arent really a professional at this stuff...you could be causing damage or ruining something else in your mouth that will affect the health and appearance of your other teeth..

you coudl always talk to your dentist about getting braces, theyll fix the gap for sure. for a less expensive and shorter option, iu think retainers could even do the trick!
