My cat may have gotten into some baking soda, but I'm not sure. He was puking a lot and I took him to the vet. Now they said his kidneys are failing. They have him on fluids, but it doesn't look good. Is there anything that can be done? Please help! Thanks.

  1. if your cats at the vet he's in capable hands, theres not much else you can do. that sounds so mean, but the vet will be able to do so much more for your cat than you could on your own. i hope everything turns out ok

  2. Yes baking soda can be toxic to cats.

Baking Powder and Baking Soda. Baking soda and baking powder are bothleavening agents. A leavening agent is a common ingredient in baked goodsthat produces a gas causing batter and dough to rise. Baking soda is simplysodium bicarbonate. Baking powder actually consists of baking soda and anacid, usually cream of tartar, calcium acid phosphate, sodium aluminumsulfate or a mixture of the three. Ingestion of large amounts of baking sodaor baking powder can lead to electrolyte abnormalities (low potassium, lowcalcium and/or high sodium), congestive heart failure or muscle spasms.
