  1. If the tube does not have any rungs/rough surfaces for them to climb, they will definitely find it hard. If you don't 'see' them climb after a day or two, check their food bowl, if there are empty shells or food that is spilt on the ground, they have been up there for sure.

Like the person mentioned above, leave treats and they might decide to climb there after all.

Also, at the level of the food bowl, is there any bedding? Or is it really really cramped? If so, they might not be going up because of that reason.

And I really hope that all this while you have left food and the water bottle at their level, if not they will starve.

  2. Normally the hamsters will figure it out on their own in a few days. Until then keep another small dish of food and water on the base of the cage so that they do not go hungry/thirsty until they get used to the tubes.

Hamsters are naturally curious animals and will always be more than willing to solve a tunnel or tube maze. However dwarf hamsters are unable to negotiate vertical tubes sometimes like the one that come with Habtirail Ovo and the tubes have to slanted or adjusted to enable them to climb. Check if the tubes are comfortable for the hamsters to climb. Also check if the tubes have enough gripping surface for the hamsters to catch when they are climbing. You can also encourage them by sticking some treats half way along the tube to motivate them to climb the tubes.

  3. Make sure the tube has bumps or ridges so they can climb up. If they aren't getting it theres not much you can do about it. Try putting their food on their level.
