I found 2 dead mice in my basement, why would they just die like that?

They were 2 feet away from each other. We moved there about a month ago and the previous owners did have cats that stayed in the basement (I think) so I'd like to believe there was no poison down there. Also we powerwashed the entire basement so anything that may have been down there got washed away. I don't have cats just a dog and he is only down there when someone else is. Just curious on why they would just be dead.??

probably just died becuase they couldnt escape...or maybe lack of oxygen.  Although I suggest you get a carbon monoxide (sp?) detector to make sure there arn't any lethal fumes hanging out down there!

The previous owners may have put mouse poison down stairs that would cause them to die. If not poison, then sometimes mice just get old or sick and just die. Recently, a mouse just died in my basement and we did not have any poison down in the house. Don't forget that these mice are wild and don't live very long. I wouldn't worry about mice dieing. That's just a part of life.

Rat poison.  I'm glad you powerwashed the basement and not let your dog down there unsupervised.

they probleyy died of old age , starvation .. beucase of the lack of food, or if you had posion killer on the floor , they maybe at that...

so just , gather them up , and throw them in the garbage....

I think that your basement had some sort of rat poison in it-not really poison but something the mice didnt like or they could of died of starvation

their mom died so they had noone to bring them food and the starved to death!!!!

My guesses are that they got into something poisonous, they got sick, or maybe they just died of being old.
