I found 2 egg-like pale balls in my driveway and when I opened them up dust flied out everywhere.. What is it?

The material definitely felt soft and egg like.. and the stuff inside seemed a lot like dust.. I can't begin to figure out what this was...

It sounds as though it could be some form of Fungi , and the dust could be spores...something like a puffball?

I would think the fungi would not form on a driveway... look up oak apple gall (there are other types of galls and species of trees they could be from) after the insect has left there will be powdery fecal material left behind

sound like a mushroom. Do not eat it unless you know what type.

Sounds like puffballs. They're a type of fungus (mushroom). Harmless, I think, but don't eat them or breathe in the dust, because I'm not sure.
