My dad and I found a little baby bird outside, it barely has any feathers and i think its back is scratched. I don't want to leave it outside, we have 106 degree weather here and some cats. We've checked every bush and tree outside and we still cannot find a nest. How can i help it? (feeding, making a little nest, etc.?) thanks.

  1. Okay...first things first.

You should have a nest or a warm place for it to sleep.I'll say a basket with warm blankets or cloths or anything will work out fine.If you use a box...then I doubt it would be comfortable. And if you try to make a nest for the bird...I think it would take really long.So I'll rather go with the basket...

You should really have the cats out of the way...

If you see a bird that looks the same as the one you found...then return the bird(maybe when it's much older)...

Feed the small bird like bread crumbs...or something else like what they usually eat when they are babies...WORMS....

When the bird is much bigger, but still needs to fly, don't try throwing it up in the air...Because some birds and maybe all birds aren't used to that.

A baby bird that is ready to fly needs to do it on its own,but with help...

When it's older you can let the bird fly off on its own outdoors. But make sure the bird gets allot of practice because if cats see it...

If the bird can't make a home of its own...have a little bird house out in-front of your house or back...

    Hope I helped!

  2. put it back but touch it as little as possible

    or turn it in

  3. My wife and I have found countless baby birds in our yard. We contacted the local Audubon Society and they told us to leave them alone. When we asked why, we were told that many bird parents observe their young to see how they will handle things before they come to help them. Of over 2 dozen babies we found, only one died and thats because it drowned in our fishpond.

I suggest leaving it alone and let nature be nature.

  4. ok, I just got finished taking care of baby birds! So I think I can help. Go to petsmart, buy baby bird formula, make sure you keep the bird warm. the bird needs to be fed like every 2 hours. I made the horrible mistake one time of forgeting to feed them at night, i never woke up! :(

Therefore you need to feed them, DAY AND NIGHT. If you cannot do this because of school, call yor local wildlife rehabilitator, they will take the baby in and give it ALL the care and attention it needs.

  5. If the bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly.   You need to replace it where you found it..preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it.  If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest.  Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched.  If you cannot find a nest, get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival.  Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own.  Look for a rehab here:

  6. As others say, the best thing is to call your local ASPCA or bird rescue group if you know of one.  they can assess the situation and do the right thing.

  7. Make a little nest of blankets and wood shavings and put him in it. Then place a heat lamp about three and a half feet away from the nest and turn it so he has enough warmth. The only way to feed him is to put worms in your blender, and whip em' up into a nice gloppy mess. (Yum!) Then get an eyedropper and feed him the goo. At night, place some woodchips over him so he doesn't get cold and remember to keep the heat lamp on all night. Depending on how old he is, you'll have to keep him a week and a half to six weeks before he is ready to leave and fly away. Teaching it how to fly could be a problem.

  8. You won't care for it. You should take it to a special wild animal care facility immediately. It will die in your hands.
