Question:

I found a baby vole with broken legs...? delicate question?

It can still move its front legs but drags its back legs. It also looks very distressed and has no life quality as it cannot move properly.

How could I quickly kill it to end its miserable life. I know that legally I can.

I want it to be a quick way, maybe breaking its neck? I phoned a animal technitian where I work and she said to throw it hard on the ground but I'm not sure.

I think one of my cats was playing with it and injured the poor thing :(.

Any help?

  1. put it in a paper bag and throw it hard to the ground.

    then throw away the bag.

    say a prayer for it.

    poor thing.

  2. I found a mouse like that years ago. I hit it with a brick. Fast and merciful.

  3. Hold it under water, and it will suffocate.

  4. If you can, rap it hard on the head with a heavy object. (your shoe maybe)

The cats broke its back. Let them eat it.

Throwing it may not kill it. You could drown it but that would be slow.

  5. Thats horrible!

  6. I tend put nature's ways above human sentiments, so I'd leave it in the wild and let nature run its own course. It might get eaten by another animal, or it might just decay and return the nutrients back to earth.

  7. Just wait...nurse it...make sure he puts no weight on it....so it can heal.....but its to late now

  8. Well there are several quick and painless death, but they require you to get bloody or somewhat gruesome.

You could chop its head off or drown it.  Put in on the ground and crush it quickly.

Or just let it die in it's home out in the woods peacefully.  It will be in pain but it will be a natural, noble death.

  9. Take it to an animal shelter or vets, you wont have to pay its a wild animal, they will give it an injection and it will just go to sleep warm in its blanket. The technician is an idiot, she cant have much interest in animals, throwing it on the ground may not kill it the first time, and twisting its neck may not either, just leave it in even more pain

  10. that's horrible. how can you deal with it?

get your husband to do it

  11. oh you poor thing having to do such a thing, big hugs for you. Also for the vole but such is nature and it can be cruel, I think if your friend is an animal technition and they say to do that I would probably go for that option. If however I could get someone else to do it I probably would'nt be a martyr to the cause, I would get them to do it in the quickest most humane way. xx many thoughts to you

  12. Unfortunately the best way to kill it would be to cut off its head or smash its head with a hammer. You could also back over it with the car. That would kill it almost instantly. The sooner you destroy the brain the better. Or you could just stick it in a box in a quiet place and let nature take it course.

  13. Probably best just to smash it with a big rock (make sure it's in a bag first).  It's horrible, I had to do it with a baby bird our cat mangled.

If you can't then just leave it somewhere you can;'t see it and let it die quietly

  14. I know i am not a professional but i would NEVER throw it hard on the ground. That draws the line between humane and inhumane ways of killing animals.

I think you should drop it off at a vets office or something have them inject it with a shot. That may cost money tho :[

  15. a bullet behind the left ear....but make sure its blindfolded

  16. The creature is doomed it will not survive, let the cat finish it off it,s natures way
