Question:

I found a ball bearing next to my bicycle?

It's about 1/8" (3mm) in diameter. I've had a look at everything, and the bike seems to be okay. It's possible the bb came from somewhere else, but this was indoors, so I don't know where.

Where might a 1/8" bb come from on a bicycle?

  1. Front wheel hub. Or handle bar bearing set.

  2. It must be time for someone to post a stupid facetious answer.

I found a toilet roll next to my bicycle.

  3. If a ball bearing fell out of your bike you have a problem. The bearings are retained in a cup and race, if something is so loose that a bearing fell out - don't ride the bike until you fix the problem. Holy Molly!

  4. If it did indeed come from the bike, you're due for a breakdown very soon...

    Possible locations:

    1.  front wheel hub

    2.  rear wheel hub

    3.  bottom bracket  (where the big gear is)

    4.  headset (where the handlebars attach to the fork)

    6.  inside the cassette (where all the little gears are, assuming this is a multi-speeed bike)
