I found a black trash bag behind a bush......What should I do?!?! (PLEASE READ!!!)?

I was taking my dog for a walk through a little green shortcut in our neighborhood when I spotted a black trash bag. I had an uneasy feeling, so I approached it slowly with my dog. He sniffed it and recoiled immediately. I slowly realized that the bag had a very strong smell of cleaning chemicals. I got freaked out because I didn't want to open the bag and find a dead baby or anything. What should I do?! Should I open it? Should I call the police? Please..... :( And no, I'm not lying, just for all of the people who are going to respond like, "This is so fake, Get a life," etc.

tell someone like a  community member to check it out,. if  its not on someone's property or in an area where you're supposed to put teh garbage then you should go to the police

don't open it. yes, you should alert the police. even if it ends up being a plain old misplaced trash bag, call them just to be safe.

Call the police imminently. You should've done it as soon as you  saw the bag. Too bad you didn't open the bag. If their was a dead child, you could have saved he/her life maybe.

defenatly call the police and have them figure out what it is. dont get tempeted and look inside or leave your fingerprints on it. just wait for the cops

I would find a stick and push the top of the bag open using the stick. If you find something inside of it that is disturbing (like a baby), call the police. Do NOT touch the bag with your hands or anything inside of it. Otherwise leave it where it is.

If you are suspicious about the contents, then by no means should you open it.  While it probably is someones garbage, the possibility of something illegal or worse still exists.  You can call the police, anonymously, tell them it is not an emergency, and explain what you found and where it is.  express your concern.  This way if it is "something" you will have done your civic duty.  If it is just garbage, you will not be blamed for making a false report.  The police would usually rather investigate something that turns out to be nothing, than have an important piece of evidence (?) go unnoticed.

If I was you I would have the police to check it out if I was that suspicious of it.  It may have chemicals for making meth. Even if was nothing serious it may have something in it to identify the person who trashed the area

I don't think you should handle it, just call the regular police number (not the 911 emergency).  Tell them there's a suspicious black bag at XYZ location.  Say you don't know what's in it but it smelled of cleaning chemicals and frightened your dog.  Leave it to them to check out.  

If it's a criminal matter, you don't want your fingerprints all over it.
