  1. Blue Jays are protect by some State and Federal laws so if you are caught with that bird you could get a fine.

The best thing to do is to contact your local Vet and see if they have a list of Licensed wildlife care givers since they are trained to care, feed, wean and release the bird back into the wild.

Very young baby bird will eat around the clock and you have to be able to be there to feed them and fed them the correct foods.

All I can say for right now is until you can get someone to take over the handfeeding is to just feed it moistened Cat food or canned wet cat food, and only give it small pieces at a time until it refuses to open its mouth. Never force it to drink any water with an eye dropper or any other method because you could choke the bird and if that happens it will die very quickly. Never give a baby bird chopped up worms or bugs because you will also make the bird sick and could cause it to die. That is why I say to use cat food and it will also contain enough liquid in it so they is no need to worry about it having to drink.

But please contact your local vet ASAP so they can tell you who can take over the care of this baby bird.

I respect the fact you care enough to take care if it, but it does need to be cared for by a licensed professional, and you dont need to get in trouble with the law over the bird.

If you have any problems trying to find someone who is licensed please let me know and I will give you a hand in locating someone.

  2. When it stops eating! Baby birds are fed constantly by their parents, but smaller amounts. You can feed him larger amounts, so he doesn't have to eat as often. What you can also do is put a dish with food in his cage or box or whatever you have him in. Wild birds are usually smart enough to figure out how to eat from dishes by themselves ONCE they are about a week and a half old. My sparrow learned how to do this at about that age, as did my grackles. I would also recommend getting exact baby bird formula, as they all really like this. You can feed them with a small measuring spoon. They enjoy having the formula mixed with mashed banana too. Good luck!
