Question:

I found a blue tailed skink in my back yard.

I've identified it, but from what I've read, they aren't supposed to be around where I live. Every where I've looked it says that the blue tailed skink only lives in the south and I'm way up in the north. How could it have gotten here?

  1. I found this article on Wikipedia about skinks. The young of the Five-lined Skink have blue tails.

The range of the Five-lined Skink extends in the north to southern Ontario, the lower peninsula of Michigan and eastern New York. The western border is in Wisconsin, Missouri and eastern Kansas, Oklahoma, Florida and Texas. These skinks tend to be most abundant on the coastal plain in the southeastern United States and along the Gulf Coast. They can also be found in northern California.
