I found a caterpillar today....?

and i put him in a big jar with the lid off put all kinds of leaves in the jar with a little water on the leaves, and left the jar outside (UK) and i went back out to check on him loads of times and he was ok moving, it is now dark outside and i brought in the jar and looked at him and he was not moving so i thought he was sleeping, BUT i touched him and hese not moving... is he dead or just in deep sleep?

Depends on what the nightly temp. is where you live right now. Low temperatures slow down insects' movements and can make them torpid. I wouldn't assume that he is dead. The best thing to do (IMHO) is to release him back into the area from which you found him. Good luck.

HAHA!!! lol sorry thats funny.... um... he might be sleeping but wait until tomorrow and see what happens.
