First off, thank you for help. But, I can't afford a filter. I live in a travel trailer, we travel a lot. On one vist in the woods. I found a blue kiddie pool. Pretty big. Not blow up, plastic. I cleaned it throughly. I put a wood plank and a couple of large basking rocks. My two turtles are about 2 years old. One wild and one from a pet store. I put them in the kiddie pool almost everyday to catch some sun. But, when I put them back, they are put in a small plastic tank. About 2 gallons. I feel like they shouldn't be stuck in there. But, I am afraid to leave them out in the kiddie pool all day and night. A critter or bird might get it.

Do you think I should leave them out there or not?

  1. this is good for when you can watch them, but beware of birds of prey and raccoons,,bring them in at night.

Make sure they have some shade while out doors basking in the real sun..

I used an umbrella when I did this to shade part of the pond. Make sure you attach it to something so it doesn't fly awaya witha  good breeze..drop some goldfish (10)in the pond so they can get some exercise swimming for thier dinner..

they will love you for this and so do I.

Maybe you can ask for a tank and filter for Christmas??

  2. Thats great that they have a large pool to "play" in. As you would know, turtles need ALOT of space, considering how big some of them get. I have to say, a 2 gallon tank is pretty small, but if its just for the night, it should be ok. The only way you can let those guys out there all day and night is if theres fencing around it, to protect them from predators, this is quite easy though. Just get some metal fencing, and put it around and ontop of the cage. I would suggest to put some rocks around the outside of the cage, just incase predators try to dig there way under it. But if you dont want to do all that, putting them in that cage at night is perfectly fine, just make sure you let them out everyday to get some fresh air.

  3. You shouldn't leave them out there with out your supervision. You should get them a new aquarium. 5 gallons is good. If they are pretty big, you shouldn't put them in a small tank. I hate to say it, but if you can't put them in a good space, you should sell or give them away.

  4. Well, we don't live in the woods, but we've had two turtles for over 15 years.  I think they've been in a ten gallon tank all along.  As for them being outside, ours were outside for a majority of the time in several different places.  No bird or animal ever got to them.  I'd say cover them at night.
