My neighbors chickens are always in my yard. There are two mothers who've had little chicks for a few weeks now. One had six and one had one. Yesterday the mother with six was down to five. I saw one little chick off by himself chirping and limping around lost. When I walked near him the mother came flying over and attacked him. She had her wings down and was running right over the top of him. I have put him in a small cardboard box with some grass hay, a very small water container (like the ones they use in restaurants for Wasabi. I know nothing about chicks and was afraid he might drown or get wet with anything else) also I got some chick starter and sprinkled it around the bottom of the box. My neighbor said I could keep him and I will till he gets big enough to run with the other chickens but what do I do with him now. I feel sorry for it. Like I said I don't know what I'm doing. What about it's leg. Should he stay in the box for a while to see if it heals? thanks much!

  1. OMG!, i fell so bad for it, take it to a doctor a see what the problem is with its leg, well that is what i would do but it is your choice to leave it there or to take it to a doctor. good luck with the chick!!!

  2. just leave it alone, it doesnt need you. no offence. like not in a bad way. ya

  3. Yes ask the neighbor if they have any starter feed this is a fine crumble the baby needs also water and a dry warm place to stay if warm you can sit box outside on porch if screened this will give warmth and light. His leg may heal but will take time and then again may be deformed the hen she wants nothing to do with since its hurt and she will kill if gets the chance. If you raise this peep it will stay with you since its where it was raised. Need to keep box clean and dry for the bird may have to keep till 4-5 months so can live on own from there. Also bring in at dark so hes not killed by prey and need to keep warm with a light bulb place in corner this way if peep gets hot it can go to other side of box to cool down and return when cool or cold again.

  4. You could take it to the vet who has been trained to deal with such things.
