Question:

I found a muskrat in the window well, with no signs of rabies. Would it be reasonable to take it out?

The muskrat in the window well has been there for about a week now. I have been feeding it its natural foods; roots, water, even a frog! It seems to be healthy, with no signs of rabies. Very calm, very healthy. We are afraid animal control will perhaps put him in the wrong place, or just put him in a cage. If I have gloves on, is it safe to take him out and put him back in the marsh where he came from?

  1. it still could be a sick muskrat.  I would contact the animal control.  Ask them if it is healthy and if you could keep it.  If it is healthy, then after they leave you can release it into the wild.  If not, then it should be taken away so no one gets hurt
