Question:

I found a painted turtle on the road, hit by a car

The shell doesn't seem too bad, I took him home and put him in my pond.

He does come out of the water to sit in the sun and seems to be OK. I'm feeding him lettuce and worms. What else should I be feeding him?

  1. Hi

Well since you found it and it had no injuries, this is what you can do:

-First, mix together salt and water and scrub its shell with gentle round motions. If it flinches, then it has injury of some sort.

-Next, put it somewhere that is warm, not by the window

    - Give it full spectrum UV light/sunlight

-Provide some turtle pellet/some veges, and very few worms(parasites).

    Email me for more info

  2. I think you were at the right place and have the perfect home.

Fish and greens and maybe toss in a cuttle bone in for extra calcium..get that from the bird section.

If his shell looks ok ..leave it alone.

If you think he may need to be looked at ..

Contact the “herpetologicalsocieties.com, for a turtle vet in your city and state.

  6. that's soo kind of you :]

Well feed him live crickets, and go to the petstore and see what the have for that type of turtle.

make sure the turtle can get out of the pond when it wants.

and make sure birds or other  predators dont try to get him.

    bring him inside at night.
