  1. You don't give much information abut what you found.  Fossils are not really rare, and usually don't have much value.  Take it to the best museum you can to at least identify it.

  2. <<do i go to a near-by museum to find out its value if any?>>

Ask at a suitable museum if somebody might please be able to identify it.  Don't ask for a "valuation".  Museums aren't some kind of equivalent of postage stamp dealers or the like.  The important value is the information it may provide, for example, the locality where you found it.

  3. go to the museum closest 2 u and ask the manager or superintendent of the museum and they will direct you to where you can sell it! thats rly kwl that u foudn a fossil! where did you find it??

  4. Take a digital photo and e-mail it to a paleontologist. These people study fossil bones. It will also help to include where the fossil was found and how deep it was buried. This gives the paleontologist some idea of the age of the fossil. In terms of value, skulls are the most prized because scavengers usually eat the head first, so fossil skulls are rare. If it is a skull, or even part of one, examine the teeth. Sharp pointed teeth indicate the animal was a preditor, and these are rarer than herbivores and hence, more valuable. If the fossil is the end of a big bone sticking out of a rock, leave it were it is at and call a local museum. There is a good chance there are additional bones embedded in the rock, and only experts can safely remove them.
