  1. Match the specifications to your needs.  Volume - look at RMS not PMPO, get a stereo with a clock/timer at least 40W RMS for a bedroom.

Check the warranty - find the local repair agent - ring him and ask what he recommends.

Stick to a brand that has a good reputation - some brands though have weaknesses - ie i have had some sony equipment with poor mechanics.  VCRs, CD & DVD players all failed due to mechanics.  Technicians will let you know what is best to buy - the gear without manufacturing glitches.

Make sure you listen to it and have a play with it and get one in a sealed box before you hand over your cash.

  2. Look on line and write down the features you want, write down the type and model number, then go here and review them:

  3. i think if you have a 300 limit you should just spring for an ipod and ipod speaker.  They have an alarm on them,  and you can get decent radios for prety cheap these days as MP3 and satellite is killing it . . .   Sony is always a good brand, so's alpine.

  4. The Tivoli Audio® Model Three™ AM/FM clock radio improves your mood from the moment you open your eyes. “Designed with spare elegance and natural wood, the Model Three’s sound is warm, full and altogether surprising coming from a cabinet this small.” (Sound & Vision)

The Model Three clock radio features a tuner – originally developed for cellular communications – that brings clarity to even the weakest stations. Owners tell us they love the ultra-smooth analog tuning dial, sound design that astonishes the audio experts, and a beauty and balance that make it “not just the best looking clock radio made…it’s one of the most beautifully crafted home audio products ever.” (LA Times)

Like all Tivoli Audio products, the Model Three clock radio is compatible with iPod and other players. Give yourself – or someone else you care about – the gift of waking each day to something beautiful.

An external FM antenna and external AC power supply are included. One year warranty. Offered in Metallic Taupe/Cherry. Operates on AC or 12v.m

XtremeMac Luna Alarm Clock + Room Audio System for iPod

Pros: An impressively designed iPod docking clock radio with a fantastically adjustable LCD screen and novel settings menus. iPod-like interface provides access to all sorts of user-customizable settings for the clock face, AM/FM radio and dual alarms; great included remote control provides bass and treble controls, plus considerable use of unit’s other features.

Cons: Price is higher than ever-improving sub-$100 options with similar features but less impressive total performance. AM/FM radio performance varies from unit to unit based on revision; new units (2.12U firmware and beyond) are substantially better here, and generally unobjectionable, by comparison with earlier units. Early units may have reversed stereo channels. No easy way to tell difference between boxes of old and new units, or update the firmware to get small interface improvements.
