I found a rock and need help?

i found this rock that i found in the nantahalla river while tubing. its circular shaped and when i rub it on paper little shiny grains come off. the rock itself is a shiny metalic. anyone have any ideas?

  1. There are a LOT of different information taht goes into identifying a specimen.  A picture might help.  The fact its circular and rounded, just means its been in the water a while.  If you put ANY stone in the water or sand for long periods of time, it will eventrally become circular/rounded/smooth.  A picture might help some.  And also, where the devil is Nantahalla river? That would help too.


  2. If not mica schist (are you sure?), then it could be graphite (unlikely if there is no streak on paper) or hematite.  For the latter, rub on a tile.  Hematite will leave a rusty red streak.

  3. Sounds like a mica schist, a metamorphic rock,. The shiny grains are the mica flakes.
