I found a stray kitten poor lil thing was in bad shape.?

Question

I got her cleaned up and fed and an appointment at my vets.I want to keep her but I have a dog and Im not sure how he will act.How do I introduce them?

hold the kitten in your arms and go close to the dog. if the dog tries to attack, keep trying until they are used to each other. or put one outside and one inside

Put a baby gate between them and just let them sniff and see each other through the gate. When your dog barks or growls, give him his quiet command. When they seem calm enough through the gate, try some supervised interaction. Don't trust them alone until the kitten is older and the dog has learned not to mess with her.

Make sure to say a sharp word loudly at the dog if it starts getting too excited. If the kitten is too scared, try holding it and purring to it while stroking it. Meeting an animal that's five times the size of you can be a bit unnerving, so don't force their friendship. It might take a few times for them to get going okay. You might also consider waiting until your dog falls asleep, and then letting your kitten come up and investigate the dog on its own, just to get used to his/her scent and size.

Jake has the right idea. Hold the kitten and make sure that you talk to the dog as you show him the kitten. I showed my dog a kitten once and she tried to clean him and wanted nothing more than to know where it was at how i cared for him was he ok? Did he need her to attack me for being mean? It all depends how well  you adjust them to each other. Lots of cats and dogs do get a long despite what many will tell you.

you can put them in separate rooms for the first couple of days so they can only smell each other, then keep them in kennels so they can both see & smell each. Then switch there cages so they can get a good smell of the other one.

i guess thats "the right way to do it" but i just set my puppy and kitten down in the same room and just watched them so i could interfere if anything bad would have happened.
