It has a large D on the back, with the words Uncirculated Denver.

the front says Treasury United States Mint.

Does any one know what it is?

It is copper, the same size as a penny

Thanks

  1. Hmmmm, look it up on google.

  2. You do indeed have a token from a mint set, at least the Denver mint part of the set. there is a P token with the Philadelphia part of the set. Sets are broken up for the quality of the coins in mint sets is usually better than the circulation ones. Most times the 1/2 dollar is taken out and maybe the quarter and the rest spent, it depends on what series the person opening the sets collect. A dealer will sell each coin but toss the token. It can end up in a cent roll by mistake or passed as change. Most people don't look at cents only collectors do. They are not a common item to find outside a coin store but have no value. Hope this helps.

  3. its a clue to some historica treasure or puzzle.one of your friends must have left it for u

  4. What you have is a mint identifier from a broken mint set.  When a mint set is issued along with the coins for that year the mint includes a token such as yours to easily identify which mint produced that set of coins.

Somebody cut open the cellophane packaging that the mint set came in probably because one of the coins in the set had some extra value and they wanted to sell it separately.

There is no real value in the token. It is not money. You see them in dealers junk boxes all the time.

Question: I know nothing about coins. I found this penny, I think perhaps it's a game piece or some such thing. Could you help? It's the same size and weight as a penny. It appears to be copper. The front has a 'P' in the center with "Uncirculated" along the top and "Philadelphia" along the bottom. The back has a crest in the center and says "Treasury" along the top and "United States Mint" along the bottom. All the lettering on the coin curves with the circumference. What is this? Thank You!

Answer: You have a "Mint Set" token. These tokens accompany the yearly sets of regular issue coins issued by the U.S. Mint for collectors. Since regular issues are currently struck and the Philadelphia and Denver Mint, two sealed packages of coins are included a mint set. The sets also include a Treasury token with either a "P" or "D", struck on cent blanks, to signify the above Mints. The tokens have no specific value.
