Question:

I found a virus in a file, is it safe to delete the file?

I found a virus using CA Anti-Virus on my computer at the following address:

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\25

The virus is called Java/SillyDl.EUA

I don't know how to remove it other than deleting the file, and I don't know if that is safe for my computer. All it says in CA Anti-Virus is that it's infected.

I've also scanned my computer for ad-ware and spyware and deleted those.

Please tell me if it's safe to delete it, and other wise, what can I do to get rid of this virus. Is it going to harm my computer?

Thanks in advance.

Sas xx.

  1. Have CA take care of the virus for you. There may be more to it than just the 1 file they're mentioning. OK them (CA) to get rid of it, either have them quarantine it or delete it. I usually quarantine 1st & delete later.

  3. Your 'CA anti-v' should be able to contain (or quarantine) the file.

A simple 'delete' action will likely not help much.  Those who write this garbage are pretty slick, and know how to get it to do bad work if the thing is not handled correctly.

Check your anti-v options to see what you can tell it to do with a virus once it's identified, then lock that method in to your preferences so you don't have to do a manual file 'fix' every time.
