I found a wild baby duckling...what do I do?

Its August and he's only a little guy still...He defiantly won't be old enough to migrate in the fall so what should I do? He's friendly and is eating the starter duck food I got for him but in the long run will he be able to stay domesticated over winter or will that just make it impossible to set him free once hes old enough? Is there anything I should know about taking care of him?

  1. I recommend contacting a wildlife rehabilitation organization near you. They will probably be able to take her in, or give you advice on how to care for her.  Check with veterinarians in your area. Some don't know a lot about wildlife, but they may know of someone who does.

The most important things are to keep it warm.  You can do this with a heating pad set to low  or overhead light low watt light bulb.

At an animal  feed store you can buy chick started food.  I think baby ducks pick on their own as soon a s they hatch.

MOST IMPORTANT!  Do not give the duck a big enough water bowl to swim in.  It should not get wet until it is older and feathers are water proof.  Just keep it dry and warm for now.

  2. I know this is not really an answer as such but you gotta have a look at this, sooo nice.

  3. please find a wildlife rehabilitator in your area to take care of the duck or at least get advice.  Thank you for helping the little duckling.
