  1. Go to the bank.  They can not give you this kind of information over the phone. That is a matter of bank policy, as well as Federal Law.  (Bank regulation, plus the Patriot Act.)  Be sure to bring not only the bank book, but picture ID.

  2. Contact the bank first thing.  You have teh account number on your paperwork, so it shouldn't be a problem.

How old are we talking?  A year? two? ten? fifty?

It's possible that any money left over has been eaten by fees...

  3. If the bank still exists under the same name, contact them and ask.  If it doesn't, it was probably bought out by another bank.  The state Attorney General can help you determine who currently owns the bank.

If the account is more that 7 years old, it funds have probably been turned over the the state.  Search on line for the name of the state and the words 'unclaimed funds'.  Look for a government website in the results.  You should be able to search by name for any funds from such accounts.

  4. Call the bank and ask them.

Or bring the book in to the bank and ask them.
