  1. First, I'm sorry :( its hard when pets die.

Second, it could have been old age

Third, It could have choked on a seed perhaps?

Fourth, It could have had a heart attack from something freaking it out

  2. Yep old age I am guessing

    Sorry to hear!

  3. I am very sorry for your loss.

Unfortunately there are many diseases that birds can catch.

Captive birds can suffer many illnesses that are related to their food and water being stale, old or even slightly dirty. It is also common for many captive birds to develop heart difficulties if they do not exercise regularly in larger areas such as the lounge room.

Birds who are new to your cage can have diseases. You should keep new birds away from each other for at least one month before putting together.

Also vermin that can easily enter cages such as mice can carry diseases that can kill budgies. Check that your birds cages are clean and are relatively vermin proof.

  4. Aww, that's too bad. I'm sorry you lost your birdie. :(

It's always sad when a pet dies. It could have been old age, like you said, or heart problems of some kind, or even just a biological problem like a birth defect that finally caught up with her. But do make sure your family doesn't use any nonstick cookware, scented candles, or spray-on air fresheners or disinfectants, as the airborne particles from these are all deadly to birds, and if you use any of these you may be slowly killing your birds without even realizing it. Also make sure there's nothing close enough to the cage that the bird could have chewed pieces off of and ingested--this really depends on if your bird is some kind of parrot (like a parakeet or lovebird): our cockatiels were a danger to and in danger from everything from household plants to homework assignments to lamp shades and window blinds. Anything that could possibly be reached from inside the cage was dragged in--or at least dragged closer--and torn apart as thoroughly as the birds were capable of. Including items we had thought couldn't possibly be reached from where we had put the cage (like window blinds), but which we later found little beak marks all over.

Even though there's no sign of illness, I would still let the other birds out and give the cage, food dishes, toys, etc. a good thorough cleaning with warm soapy water, just to be on the safe side. It can't hurt, after all.

  5. she may have been egg-bound, it is common in small birds and if she was in the cage with males, it is very possible

  6. Sometimes its just old age, there's nothing you could have done anymore to help your bird, sorry for the loss!

  7. Little Birds can get heart attacks or seizures very easily.

    It was probably old age.

Was his food and water fresh?

Perhaps you could ask the vet?

I'm so sorry anyway, and I hope you/ the other birds are OK

    :)

  8. Sorry :(. It could have been many things. Old age being one of them. The list goes on and on. I would keep close eye on all other birds and if you notice the slightest thing with any of them off to the vet they go. Birds often act fine until they are so sick that help may not save them. Good luck and sorry for your loss.

  9. I had lost a couple of birds years ago, one after the other for 3 days. It ended up that there was a gas leak somewhere in my house.

If the birds hadn't died I wouldn't have thought about a problem in the house, but one call to my great grandmother and I had someone come out and check. Sure enough there was a leak from my stove.
