Question:

I found my siamese cat laying on my bed in a wet spot larger than my hand?

is it possible he could have been laying in his own urine? Why would he do this? He also hasn't been eating as much as usual. The vet thinks it's behavioral, but I'm not sure I agree. Do healthy cats lie in their own urine?

  1. If he didn't move away from it this could be an indicator that he has some type of ureter blockage or infection. Time for a visit to your vet. This may be serious. Healthy cats do not exhibit this type of behaviour.

  2. Hey,

    It's not normal for a cat to do so, and it sounds like a behavioral problem, but did your vet check to see he is not ill?

    Anyway, I suggest you consult another vet so you can be sure your cat is alright.

    Good luck :)

  3. Please take him to another vet NOW, one who has a lot of experience with cats.  This sounds very serious and further delay increases his suffering  & could take his life.  Kidney problems or urinary tract blockage need immediate attention.  Better safe than sorry.

  4. No!  Cats are prety tidy when it comes to where they sleep and laying in their own urine.  Just not normal.  Sounds like there is a physical condition that you need to have checked.  Possibly kidney stones, a blockage ,even a bladder infection.  Have there been any major upsets in the home recently where the cat has been abused, or even ignored?  Then it could point towards behaviorl.  New pet intro'd to home and feeling threatened, but I think you should have a comnplete physical on the cat and take it from there.  Could be alot of things.

  5. This is very abnormal. take him to the vet. He could have either kidney problems or diabetes.

    Theres also a chance you didnt clean the litter box, and he's pissed at you...but if thats not the case, see a vet soon!

  6. Actually it is not common for cats to do that at all. /;

  7. I think you're right and your vet is wrong.

    Peeing or spraying outside the litter box can be behavioral (or symptomatic of a urinary tract infection), but lying in one's urine definitely is not.

    Someone mentioned diabetes. That's a good thing to check. With the decrease in appetite, it also makes me wonder about chronic kidney failure (CRF) - has your cat been losing weight? CRF cats can have upset stomachs and tend to eat less.

    The other reason I thought of kidney issues is that cats with CRF tend to have more diluted urine, so it doesn't have that pungent smell. CRF is probably a long shot, but it's best to find out sooner rather than later so you can start diet changes and whatever else needs to be done;. Don't let the name scare you - CRF cats can live many years post-diagnosis.

    I would definitely go back to your vet or get a second opinion. Good luck with your kitty.

  8. has he inappropriately urinated before?  I have a feeling he's trying to tell you something....are his litter boxes dirty?  is he sick?  is he mad at you?
