Question:

I found some old shares of a stock called Northwest Energy Company. How can I find out their worth?

The shares are from 1978 and 1979. I have tried to find the company on the internet, but no luck.

  1. Old stock and bonds often have no financial value. If they do, it may not be worth tracking down unless you have a lot of shares. If the shares do retain value, you will need to prove ownership (which will be near impossible if the certificate is not issued in your name). Most certificates do, however, have some value as a collectible. You might try companies such as www.Oldstockyard.com who will buy these shares from you as collectibles.


  2. Northwest Energy Company was purchased by Williams Companies in 1982, probably for $39 per share.

  4. They are probably long gone.  But if you know the state they were incorporated in contact the Secretary of State in that state.
