  1. No he's defenitly not too big for you.

Weight wise, he's a little big, but you are tall and would look a little awkward on a smaller horse.

I'm 5'7'' and have a 16.3 hand horse and he is about the perfect size for me. I'm fairly thin and he's a TANK but I feel comfortable on him and don't look too big or small for him.

Especially in dressage you see a lot of small riders on big horses. But at 5'8, a 17.1 hand horse shouldn't be too big at all. As long as your comfortable on a horse of that size.

    Good luck!

  2. i don't think the height would really be a problem for you... unless you have a history of falling off horses.lol.. i think the price is great.. its very hard to find a horse like that for the price it came.. a lot of them come in at 3,000 -3,500 + .... so i think you should go for it.. good luck!

  3. well he is 2 for calm do you think your 4 yrs experience can cover a not so bomb proof horse? at 12 yrs he still has a lot of horse left in him and should do great for hunter and dressage because he looks awesome in the pictures. I say go down look at him try him out and then decide.

  4. * I love Horsetopia =D*

No, I do not think he is too tall. If you look at the rider, she looks to fit him well. Blemishes on a horse is something to ask about. It can be something such as a "Vice," aka A non-serious Issue. So Far, the best step to do is to e-mail the owner.

Lastly, His price is a worry for me. If he is such a nice horse, I am wondering why his price is so cheap.

    1. Ask reason on why he is for sale.

    2. Ask about his 'Blemishes."

    3. Ask for a video or to go out and test him out.

It won't hurt to see him. It's the only way for sure you can tell he is well for you.

He will not be too much horse for you. He is perfect at his height and yours, and he seems calm and his age is nice.

    - He looks like a great Hunter horse. And, he seems smart enough to do dressage.

The best thing to do is to ask more about him and see him. He is worth looking at.

  5. He sounds like he could be a good horse for you, definitely worth a look.

A blemish is something that does not affect the horse's performance.  It's probably some scars, or old bumps that won't go away, or something like that.

  6. He looks like a great buy. I'd go see him and ride him several times to see how you get along. I don't think he's any too big for you. Good luck!

  7. I doubt he would be too tall for you. The best way to find out ;; test rides. Test riding would be the best way to find out if you fit, size wise, and to see if you fit, personality wise.

  8. The only thing I would be leary of is "lesson horse" which means every green rider in the world that was ever on his back kept their balance by using his mouth.  He'll know every horse trick in the trick horse book and try them on you.  Second best way to ruin a good horse is to allow every kid at the barn ride it....

  9. No, he's definitely not too tall... I'm 5.5 and one of my horses is 17.1. Just remember though if you are worried about the size, 17.1 can feel REALLY big if he gets excited or worried about anything. Make sure if he is that big, that you trust him and feel really comfortable around him. I almost worried though because of how low his price is... I don't know if it might be an issue with anything. Make sure you find out why the owner is selling him and get a good pre-purchase vet exam with x-rays (preferably). He is a great price though! You should really just meet and ride him, to find out if you and him get along well and you feel like you can trust and handle him. Maybe get your trainer out there with you to see what they think.

Good luck! Hope he works out!

  10. He should be okay.  Just realize how big a 17 hh horse is.  Blemishes, er, not so good.  The thing with chestnut horses is that they tend to have sensitive skin, and you might want to consider that..  12 is probably going to be his best point.  As he gets older, he may get a bit lazier..  Definatly ask for a test ride...  Or a few..

    good luck(:

  11. i like em.

  12. At 5,8 a 17 hand will definitely be a tall stretch for your legs. The only way you will know if he is well suited for you is to meet him, ride him and to see if the two of you are comfortable together. Please judge the horse not by the picture that you see on the screen but by the way he takes care of you and how you are willing to take care of him.

  13. there is no such thing as a horse that is too tall for you (unless you have problems getting in the saddle)

I'm 5'3 and I ride a 16.1 hh horse..... I think he will do you good and you have nothing to worry about.
