  1. I agree that your dog will be fine but I am concerned about owners giving shots. I worked at a vets and when dogs came in for their shots they were also examined. They were weighed, heartbeat listened to, ears, eyes and teeth looked at. It sometimes resulted in something being picked up by the vet and at times quite serious things like heart problems. The vet would also postponed injections if they found a minor ailment like ear/eye infectionsuntil they cleared up. You quite innocently did something which thank goodness was harmless but it did show that mistakes can and do happen.

Gosh I forgot to say that I took my  husky pup for her first jags last tuesday and the vet found she had a small heart murmer. It's a grade one which shouldn't cause her any problems but it could have been more serious.

  2. It's fine to inject 1 cc under the skin, even into a vein contrary to popular opinion. Now inject it into an artery and you have a big problem

  3. The air will disperse naturally.....If it was injected directly into a vein she would be dead by the time you read this message from a heart attack.

  4. How come you gave it its shots and not a qualified Vet...

Can you do that where your from. You cant in my country, its illegal..

I never said it was to save on vet bill you ignoramous, Its a pity you didnt take the injection yourself....Woof Woof..

  5. If it's under the skin call a vet and ask. It doesn't cost to simply call them. You'd know it if you got air into a vein... THAT is deadly in seconds.

  6. i give myself injection all the time. least 3 times a day. and people that think you have to have a medical degree to give a simple shot are nuts

  7. It depends where you injected it. If it was only into a muscle or just underneath the skin then your fine. However, if you accidentally hit a vein then there may be some complications. One obvious way to know wether you may have injected into a vein is by looking at the wound after injection... was there any blood? If not, then you should be fine. If there was then I suggest you ring the vet asap to find out your next course of action.

  8. under the skin will not harm puppy..into a vien would...pup will be ok

  9. I think this is perfectly legal in the States?  However, it's dangerous.  Unless you are experienced, which it seems you are not, why run the risk.  You have probably got away with this, this time, but the next?  Not worth the risk.  Take pup to the vet for the next set.

  10. i hope so..how long ago did u do it? call the vet & ask...well don't know where u are at its really early here

  11. The vaccinations that you can buy and give to your pet on your own are just subcutaneous (under the skin) and air is perfectly fine, sometimes vets even put some air under there on accident! So that's not a big deal.

But I would like to tell you that buying an over-the-counter vaccination is not guaranteed to do its job and keep your dog protected from diseases such as parvo and distemper. I work in a Vet clinic and many times have seen people come in with a sick puppy (parvo), we ask if it has been vaccinated, and they say they did it their self. Sometimes, the unlucky puppy doesn't make it. It breaks my heart. I know it may sound like the easier thing to do, but I just wanted to let you know of the chances.

  12. Your dog will be fine.  It takes a lot of air injected directly into a vein or artery to cause problems.  I give vaccines myself to all my animals and yes, it's legal in Texas.  Don't worry, just practice a little more with a grapefruit like they teach in med school!  Practice using just plain water in the syringe and inject the grapefruit over and over until you get it perfect for next time.  Better to give the vaccines yourself on time and regularly until your dog is safe from diseases. It's simple and yes, it does save a little on the vet bill.  Nothing wrong with that.  I have a fund saved for vet bill emergencies as well.  BTW  my vet years ago showed me how to properly give injections, sub cue or intramuscular.  Ask your vet to show you too.
