  1. First, I would give your friend a piece of your mind for changing the password. Even if it was just a joke, he should have told you that he changed it so you did not accidentally cause it to lock up.

I had an uncle who used to like to play with the settings on my computer, my cell phone, etc whenever he came over for a visit. After that, he was told in no uncertain terms that he would no longer be welcome having access to my stuff. They are called "personal settings" for a reason and should not be changed even if they meant well by it.

As for your locked iPod, my suggestion would be to try this.

    A) get the correct password from your friend

    B) remove the battery from the iPod

    C) wait ten minutes

    D) re-insert or re-attach the battery and power on the unit.

See if at that point you have access to the password option again.

If that does not work (or if your friend refuses to give you the password), you may have to take it to an authorized Apple dealer or service center and get them to reset it to factory defaults. (Check the manual on that, you may be able to do that yourself). Keep in mind that if they do that, you may lose all the contents in the unit.

EDIT: I see others have mentioned to connect it to your computer. You can try that, but if the iPod is truly locked with a password, it probably will not let you in that way either unless it handshakes with the software on the PC in some special way.

  2. connect it to you computer it works with the nanos

  3. connect it to your computer and click reset all settings in itunes
