I gave priority to County cricket over IPL says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729
The upcoming Pakistani born Australian batsman, Usman Khawaja, turned down the offer to appear in the Indian Premier League’s 4th season and instead, became a part of the English County, Derbyshire.
He was one of the lucky players who were offered central contracts by Cricket Australia while nearly seven popular Aussies were unable to board the ship.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543, one of the axed players, lashed out at the Australian selection committee and Cricket Australia for ignoring him despite his recent form.
Khawaja has been selected in the Australian ‘A’ side which will be touring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TD-Paine-c2652.
He has been included for the two four-day games and hopes to shine in the Australian side.
Born on 18th December 1986 in Islamabad, Khawaja migrated to Australia with his family where he is also in the process of becoming a commercial http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Keith-Alan-Parsons-c70573.
Being the first Muslim to represent Australia, he feels lucky and prefers grooming himself playing County cricket over the IPL.
''When I played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 I qualified to go over and I thought it would be silly of me not to take the opportunity because I could play against different players on different surfaces with different balls, a whole new style of cricket,'' he shared.
The 24-year-old was honoured with the Australian Test Cap on January 3, 2011, when he was selected in the squad to play against England in the fifth and final Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
He faced 95 balls in the first innings and scored 37 runs with the help of five fours. He proved his temperament for the longer version of the game which was appreciated by Cricket Australia by offering him the central contract.
Khawaja gave priority to County cricket so that he can perform better once he represents Australia in the future tours to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
He narrated, ''I knew I was inexperienced and I didn't want to go to England, whether it was with the Aussie side or what-not, without having played there already … The IPL and all that jazz will still be around, but at the moment, I needed to do this.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 batsman has proven his appetite for the runs by scoring 2460 runs in First class cricket at an average of 47.30.
Khwaja believes that he can get more chances for playing in the IPL but a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 stay at Derbyshire has provided him with a lot of confidence.
