Currently my guardian gets the checks because I'm not 18 (I'm 17) I feel as though the money that she gets doesnt go towards my needs. Is there a way for me to get the checks myself. Like into my own account?

  1. Make an arrangement with your guardians. Let them know that if given the checks you will pay all utilities, rent, food, clothing, hygiene and all other expenses out of the checks and then have enough left to spend on what you really want.

  2. You can certainly take legal actions - but it is up to you whether to go through the trouble, or wait a few months to be 18./

  3. Should be to You, with Help from Your Guardian...!!

  4. call the governmental department that handles social services and they should be able to help.

  5. Housing, food, clothing, medical care, phone, cable tv  are what that money pays for.   If you were on your own the monthly tab would be a minimum of 2.000 a month.  I doubt you get that much from Social Security.  Be careful what you start.

  6. Yes. First you need to report this to the Social Security office. Next, you can go to a bank and open an account. Yes, you can do this at age 17. But the most important thing you have to do is contact the SS office and let them know about this, because your guardian can get in big trouble for not using your money for what you need.

My dad died a few years ago and I still get checks from Social Security. They are put into a savings account which you can open yourself if you're under 18. Ask the bank and the SS office to directly deposit your check into your account and the money will be yours.

If you have any other questions, email me.

  7. Um, I'm afraid without legal representation the only thing to do is wait until you are 18

  8. negative ghostrider, but you can contact the social security admin. and file a complaint if it's that bad...
