Is there any way of increasing the number of bars on my phone when I am in my apartment so I can receive phone calls? Can I call Verizon? Is there something I can do?

  1. There are a couple of things you can do. You can dial *228 on your phone and then press option 2. This updates the PRL (preferred roaming list) in your phone. Verizon Wireless is building towers and making network improvements all the time and your phone may not have the most up to date list. Dialing *228 does an over the air update of the list in your phone so you are taking advantage of all the towers in your area.

The firmware on your phone may also be out of date. To fix that you would need to go to a Verizon Wireless location and have them flash the phone. It takes about 15-30 minutes depending on the phone and how much information (pix, text, phone numbers) you have on it.

finally if you have a bluetooth capable phone and there is someplace in your apartment that does get decent reception you can set your phone there and then walk around your house on your bluetooth headset - up to 25 feet away.
