  1. Report the number to "Who Called". If you don't have caller ID, then pick up the phone and dial  *69  right after you hang up & an automated operator will tell you the number.

If you're on the "do not call list", then report it to the National Do Not Call Registry......you can do this online too.

  2. They are computers that call up to find out what times you are in.

It will be passed on to a cold call centre to give them the best time to call when you are in to answer the phone.

  3. Have you tried to call that 1- 800 number??  If that proves to be a dead end,,, then I would call your phone company and give them the number and the issue, and that they are harrassing you.

  4. Try contacting the police or phone company to get it traced. It could be a prank or it could be something worse..

  5. its from a telemarketing place.  its a computer just seeing if someone answers the phone.  than it is either trying to transfer you to a telemarketer, or sending your number to other telemarketing agents since you did answer.

  6. Yes, used to freak me right out.  They are from call centres, wanting to sell you something, in order to make the sales team more productive, and spend less of their time dialling and waiting, and more time selling, potential customers' numbers (in this case yours) are fed into a computer that automatically dials the number, when a sales person becomes free, they can then automatically talk to you, if there is no sales person available, the line appears to have no one there and is held open by the computer, awaiting a sales person until you hang up.

It is nothing sinister, or to worry about but it is annoying in the extreme, and in my view, should be banned.  If you want to do something about them, speak to BT who can put you (for free) on their database, whether your number is registered in the directory or not, which will prevent these, and other unwanted sales callers from contacting you.  I did this about 18 months ago and have not had a single unsolicited sales call since.

  7. its from a call center

    i get them too xx

  8. If you have to answer the phone, then try this, it works.

When no-one speaks tap the # key rapidly as many times as you can for about 10 seconds. This confuses their computor and it will not dial your number again and you won't get any follow-up calls.

  9. Ummm don't answer it duh

  10. Keep pressing the # on your phone. It screws up their computer on the other end.

  11. stop answering it.

  12. Block the number, or put it on your phones reject llist. Then it will just appear as a missed call.

  13. They probbably want to scam you. Get the number and Google search it. There are several sites that track 800 numbers and can tell you where it is from. This happens alot.

  14. Don't answer them--if it's important they will leave a message.

  15. just don't answer them.  contact the phone company to see if there are any other alternatives.  this is harassment

  16. Don't answer the phone. That's what I do.

  17. Change your number and go ex directory !!  I also get these calls and if I spot them on caller display I just let them go on to my answerphone

I am afraid that these calls are all down to "progress" and we are all plagued by these tele marketing companies
