I get invitation to join a yahoogroup manuelbryant19 and on searching find no such group.How is this possible?

If you don't know who send it, then it could be a spam... don't simpily delete them but click on 'spam' so that you don't get them again.

Another posibility is that the group was deleted by the owner or yahoo:)

There are Yahoo Groups that aren't listed in the directory, which means that doing a search will not find it.  But these unlisted Groups still exist, and you can visit their home page if you know their address.  So I figure manuelbryant19 must be one of the unlisted Groups.

it's probably spam!

it's listed alright, but in the adult directory. it's not a real group, just a redirection to a s**t site.
