  1. 1. Practice. The more confident you are, the better you think you'll be.

    2. Consult your coach, a friend, or your parents (who watch you skate). Maybe they can reassure you.

    3. Try to get the test out of your mind. Read, watch TV, in fact, try doing homework. It works with a stomach ache! ;)

    4. If you fail, they're ALWAYS going to give you a chance again! They're not going to tell you, "ooh, you failed, haha, you have to stay in your level forever".

    Good luck!!!

  2. just concentrate and keeo telling yourself that you can do this because you are good and you know what your doing. when your at the competition just pretend no one else is there. ignore all the noises around you and just enjoy the experience. picture your routine in your head and the judges and the crowd standing and cheering for you. this should make you more confident.

  3. You have no idea how much I completely understand your situation! When I was younger I would always nail my programs when I competed and always did better then I did with practice, but then I started having self confidence issues and I started falling apart durring testing and competitions even shows. I went to a sports physchologist, which helped me a lot but ultimetley it was something an old coach said.

'there is no secret, you just have to grow up and go take you what you want and be determined, just do it'

at the time I didn't understand it, but it ended being up the best advice he ever gave me. Also, just having more confidence in yourself and not second guessing it. I test on Friday as well, good luck!

Also, its just testing if its MIF its no big deal many people fail and you can always take it again but they do allow a re-skate. and if its freeskate, the required moves are so much easier then any competion program for that level, so they are easy for you and you have no reason to doubt yourself.

    Good luck!!

  4. You can become more confident by practicing on and off ice! You can ask someone to video tape your routine so that you can watch it and improve on anything that you think looks bad. Just tell yourself it will be alright and it will. Plus, you will always have as many chances as you want. Practice makes perfect (cliche i know) haha dont worry it will be fun after you are done.

  5. Before competitions and test sessions, it's important to eat a good breakfast, even if you don't feel like eating anything. Don't make yourself sick obviously, but at least try a banana or some cereal or pasta, because grains are good for the nerves and concentration. During my test sessions, I like to think about the fact that the judge is actually human, and that he has a family and kids and such. Sometimes you forget that, and it calms me down at least. When I'm at the rink for a competition, I usually like to find a quiet spot and go through my program a couple times with my iPod. Try not to freak out too much and I'm sure you'll do fine. Good luck!

  6. "There are two kinds of worries -- those you can do something about and those you can't. Don't spend any time on the latter."

You CAN  make sure you're well prepared for the test. Practice, get your routine down. And when you have done this, know that you have done all you can, and that you are well prepared.

you CAN'T control what the judges think or do.

Good  Luck! and don't stress, enjoy your skating, and no matter what happens, theres always next time.

  7. Practice (on the ground if you cant make it to the rink)

and bananas will calm your stomach

  8. listen to music. it'll keep you calm. you should dance too to shake off the nerves. music always helps me feel better when im nervous about anything. it'll help trust me!!! ( - 8*

  9. Well, firsthand, if you find your stage fright to be too much to bear, maybe competitive skating isn't for you.

It's not going to become less scary higher up you go in the sport, you just become used to it and stop feeling intimidated by skating in front of people.

You could also get desensitized to the hoo-ahh of a big skating day by dressing up more often. If you skate with all your makeup and skating costumes, you'll feel like a competition in particular is no big deal.

Maybe join a theater class and get used to being in front of a stage with people. It could also help in your presentation scores no not look like a stiff rock.

Quite frankly I've been through far more scary situations. University level oral exams while standing up and staring at your teacher's eyes is d**n scary!

  10. Okay no problem. Just feel as confident as you can. Think when your testing, that it's just practice. Think that there are no judges, and nobody is even watching you. You'll get butterflies, but butterflies are a good sign! Trust me, after I tested my last test, I had stomach pains like no other! But then it passes. I'm sure your coach will build up your confidence, and you'll do good. Good Luck! :)
