I get stiff legs when running?

i've ran cross country and track for 2 years and this season for cross country practice i started having really stiff legs during cross country practice, so stiff sometimes that i cant sprint. When i start a long distance run, the stiffness will stay with me, and my lower legs get sore by the second mile. All of the stretches i have tried arent working. Any tips greatly appreciated

  1. i do cross country and track too and when ever i have really stiff legs its usually because i didn't stretch after my last run. however if this is not you then maybe try some leg swings.

  2. If your legs hurt after 2 miles get some water since your legs cramp up when your dehydrated. Also this is a good idea jog 0.5 mile very slowly then stop to stretch. Make sure your staying hydrated.

  3. stretch before and after you run, as well as take an ice bath weekly, and take a hot bath every night, also try to warm up before you run to try to avoid that.
