  1. Oh no doubt it's very possible! Martial arts is not about strenght or size, it's about skill, leverage and momentum.

  2. Very possible! I've done so myself.

  3. don't go thinking she just picked up the fool and tossed him out the door. but women can definately throw guys...i've been thrown by girls before, and i'm 6'5 250 lbs.

as the other post said, its about momentum and leverage, not physical strength. (fight smarter, not harder)

    for a good explanation.

go to the bookstore or amazon.com and buy "kodokan judo" from Jigoro Kano (founder of judo) ...it's a very good book, with practical explanations of principles...as well as demonstrations of virtually the entire art of judo. including kata, separate throws. holding (pins) ...grappling/locking, and choking. it'll even tell you how to fold up your gi after class. lol....honestly, i feel it is a must have book, regardless of what art you study.

oh by the way...being shorter than the other person HELPS you throw them!

  4. Since she did it, the answer is:

    OBVIOUSLY!

Sounds like her discipline was probably judo.

  5. Yes it's certainly possible, it's just that the bigger the size difference there is, the less room there is for error by the smaller person

For example, if you were moving a folding chair from one room to another, you could pick it up any old way, with either hand, overhand grip underhand grip, grab it from the top or the side or from one leg, and you wouldn't have to worry about what you were doing with your legs and back, or if you had to lift it over any obstacles in the way

but if you were moving a sofa, you would have to pay much more attention to the technique you were using to do it, where you were grabbing it, how you're lifting it, clearing your path beforehand, etc.

It's still possible to move the sofa, you just have to be smarter about it

  6. yes its all about levarage not size or strength

  7. i do hapkido and girls do throws just like any other man doesnt really require much strength to throw someone

  8. Yes it's very possible. If you take a guys balance, obviously he'll fall. If you hit him in the right spot with enough force he'll fall.

  9. yeah its possible, if she's strong enough and knows the technique then there is no reason she shouldnt be able to.

i know little wrestlers that can toss big guys around.

  10. Absolutly possible.

  11. all things

    are possible

    the question is

    is it probable

  12. yeah i agree with david n. "obviously" yeah but i train in san shou and seen girls outweight by 30 50 lbs beat on guys.  Its possible . .with the right training anyone can be dangerous.

  13. One of my earlier tests when I was about 15 years old, 5'5" and maybe 115 lbs, involved throwing a guy in class fondly refered to as "Big Al"    All 6'3" 240lbs of him.  Mind you he was a senior rank and a police officer.  The throw was Uki Otoshi (a hand (fingertip) throw).  I first thought no problem, until I tugged and he didn't budge, but instead looked down at me and with an evil grin said, "No . . . .  Throw me."  Still not sure if I was more scared at that moment, or the next moment after the last echos of him hitting the mat faded from the dojo and he rose to face me . . . .
