Welllll we have these guys called BUMS...you'll see 'em walking around..they LOVE DRINKING. Ask one of them to join you it makes for great conversation...just watch your wallet.

All you need to do is a find an out of the way bar, sit down and talk to the bartender and sooner or later, you will have a real New Yorker sitting next to you.

Go to places away from the tourist spots - head towards the East Side or the West Side and avoid mid-town where you will probably just meet more tourists!

Also, avoid going out on Friday & Saturday nights as that is the most popular time for out of towners to be at the bars.  Try around dinner time on a Tuesday or a Wednesday.
