  1. I would wait, and save up about double that.  You should spend twice as much on speakers than you do on the receiver.

I would check out Polk audio or Klipsch in that price range.  As always stay away from Bose.

  2. If money is an issue, and all you can afford is 500.00 I would look at Best Buys Insignia brand of speakers.  They are highly rated on audio forums for the price point.  You can normally buy a pair for around 70.00 so 210.00 for a six speaker setup, leaving you around 300.00 for an internet DIY sub from Partsexpress.  You'll have to build the sub (very easy to put together) but 500.00 this would be the setup I could recommend.

  3. As the first answerer said, spending more on your speakers would be a good idea. Still, you could look around on amazon.com, and see what combinations of speakers will fit your needs, and there are some good ones for under $500 a set.

I have a wonderful set of Infinity Beta speakers, which are in the process of being discontinued for a newer lineup. You could do well looking for some of then. Vanns has the center and bookshelf models available for excellent prices (Plus, no tax and free shipping). BPAV has the floorstanding Beta 40s for $200 each, add in a center for about $110, and a pair of bookshelfs for about $200, and you're on the way to a great system for a nifty price.

    Definitely stay away from Bose.
