I got 10% lower MPG when using gas from a certain station/brand. Is that possible? Can they be cheating me?

  1. Besides the pump being wrong, (look below), do not follow the instant MPG calculator alone.  They change everything based on every condition the car is experiencing.  You would need to redo the exact route, driving conditions, vehicle conditions, traffic conditions, to be able to duplicate the same fuel mileage.

    Assuming that everything was the same except the fuel, then yes it is possible.  Every company has a slightly different formula, and every station's tanks are in different condition.   Try going to another station from that brand and see if there is a difference.  You may have just gotten a "bad tank" from that station.


  2. i have a lincoln like that .. they could have put water in the fuel.. or on a day with high humidity you will get less milage.. sometime adding alcahol to the fuel blends the water so you dont notice as much beware where you buy.. ok gilermo

  3. It might be a lower octane rating or that that station is still selling winter blend.  The more ethenol in a fuel will do that to.
